I was raised in a bilingual, Cuban-American immigrant family in Brooklyn, NY, but New England has been my home for my entire adult life. I’ve had the joy of immersing myself in the Northeastern landscape, from the coasts of Maine and Massachusetts to the Green Mountains of Vermont. After earning my MFA in painting and drawing, my professional path became a continuous synthesis of creative practice, interdisciplinary teaching, and a humanist approach to educational leadership. My work as an artist, educator, and leader sits at the intersection of art, science, sustainability, and social justice.

In college, I initially planned for a medical career as a biology major, but my direction shifted before graduation. Field-based biology courses and a semester abroad at an art school renewed the wonder and awe I had always felt for the natural environment, and my love of making art as a child. I recognized that biologists and artists are true kin, both driven by deep curiosity and a commitment to understanding the world through close, sustained observation.

Over the past 22 years, I spent the lion’s share of my energy educating young people and raising three children of my own. Nevertheless, making art remained an essential and grounding throughline. It provided me with a dedicated space to express and share my love and reverence for the natural world. Now, I am grateful for the opportunity to begin a new season in my life, one that allows my nature-centered creative practice to take center stage.
